It's time to play The Story Game!
Here's how it works. We'll start a story. You continue it in comments. Each commenter picks up where the last left off. We'll give it an ending and post our completed story on Thursday with the links to everyone who contributed under the heading, "Contributing Authors".
Please sign the Mister Linky if you're participating - it makes it much easier to list the Authors!
You can play as many times as you want and the game will run until Midnight EST, or until our next post, at which time we will close the comments. If someone knocks it off track, somebody please put it back on track again. If it happens that 2 comments post at the same time (it has happened several times!) the next commenter has the option of choosing whichever comment he/she wishes. Thanks for playing along!

Theodore already knew just which LadyCat he was going to invite! He was quite sure that nobody would be surprised when he asked ...
The postman knocked.
Theodore, most surprised, went to the door and answered it.
"Certified mail, Sir." The postman said.
Theodore signed for the envelope and thanked the postman. He sauntered over to the bar area, turning the envelope over and over, searching for a return address or some clue to the sender. The envelope smelled faintly of.....of.....of
Theodore couldn't place the scent, but it stirred deep feelings and memories in him. Something, someone, some cat many years ago..........
captured is heart. He was visiting in the deep South and was smitten with a floofy kitty. They would go everywhere together, but one day . . .
she never showed up where they had arranged to meet. He waited for hours upon hours, expecting to hear the whisper of her pawpads, but all was still and silent. The next day he went back but, to his heartbreak, all he found was a single ...
furball that had been hacked up unceremoniously.
He had saved that hairball, like only a fool in love would do. Pressed in a book with a few of the magnolia blossoms that had bloomed that year.
That was the scent on the envelope... magnolia... and perhaps a note of hairball?
Fueled by his sudden recollection, he quickly ripped open the envelope to find....
it was from her, the most beautiful girl he ever saw with her silky white coat and enchanting eyes, it was from Marilyn! His heart raced, he was to scared to read it, to scared of what her magical words might say, then he......
Opened one eye and read the page quickly. She said...
Theodore, I have never, ever forgotten about you. You are the most handsome tuxedo Mancat I have ever seen, and you are always in my thoughts and dreams. When I heard about the Annual Feline Ball I was very excited! I thought ...
of u immediately and just had to send this scented letter to you! Oh, my dearest Theodore, will u...
consider taking me to the ball? I know that I left you without explanation, but there was a very good reason why I did what I did. The reason was...
My Great-Aunt Pittypat who lives in the swamp summoned me to her sickbed. She had a very important family secret that she had to pass on to a member of the family before it was too late. I have not contact you until now because the secret .....................
had to remain a secret until now. I knew that, as I loved you so much, I would have told you things I shouldn't have. Oh Theodore.....
overwhelmed me with sadness and I was so confused. This couldn't be the truth, but it was. I didn't know how to tell you that...
Theodore tore his eyes away from the precious missive. After all these years, she was coming back into his life! He gazed out toward the garden, lost in reverie. BUUUUUUZZZZZZZZZZ!!! He jumped. Heart racing at sudden intrusion into memory, he walked down the hallway to the door. Pulling it open, he raised his eyes to find...
Marilyn!!! She was there!! In person!!! His paws trembled and his lip quivered. His knees were weak. he had no idea what to say but he opened his mouth and.................
said "Oh Marilyn! You are here! I thought when you left me so unexpectedly, I would never see you again!"
Marilyn looked up at Theodore and, with tears in her eyes, said "Theodore, there is something I must tell you...something about the secret my Great-Aunt Pitty Pat told me..."
gazed lovingly into her eyes. Remembering his manners, he stepped aside and welcomed her in. Marilyn softly walked through the door and nuzzled him sweetly. Theodore returned her affection and escorted her down the hall. Quietly he motioned toward the terrace and she followed. Marylin spoke first. "You have aged well Theodore". Still caught up in her presence, he hesitantly replied, "as have you my dear". It was as if they had never been apart. Marilyn reached into her pocket and pulled out a photograph. Theodore just stared at it and instantly understood why their lives brought them to this one moment in time. "Can you ever forgive me Theodore"? asked Marilyn. "My dear", said Theodore, "If I had only known". In the next moment, they both . . .
purred and chirped and groomed one another's ears. Stepping back gently from Marilyn, Theodore asked her "Is this the secret you couldn't tell me?" Placing his paw on the photograph, he stared lovingly into Marilyn's eyes. "Or is there more to the secret than these wonderful floofy kittens? Why did what Aunt Pitty Pat say keep you and our kits from me?"
But suddenly, the other lovely cat, the cat who had been in thoughts only moments before arrived.
"Theodore? You said we were to meet at... Oh."
I am sorry said, Camilla. I didn't meant to intrude, I didn't realize you had company, I must have got the time we were to meet confused and she bolted out the door before Theodore could reply......................
He started out the door after her and then looked back at Marilyn. The girlcat he loved from his past and the girlcat he loved from his present! What was he to do? He..........
paced back and forth and his whiskers twisted to and fro...and he contemplated how am I to chose between my two loves ... and then with a twinkle in his green eyes he....

...turned back to Marilyn, who was staring after the departing Camilla, but not angrily. "Theodore," she said, "the rest of the secret is simply this. I had worried about hurting you, but now I see we have both moved on. I see you are reading my letter. Well, I wrote it last year, and I can't imagine why it would have been delayed in the mail so long! In the letter, I was talking about last year's ball, not this year's. But I have recently gotten married to a fine and handsome mancat named Mickey Mantle, and those kittens... well, they are mine and Mickey's. So if you love Camilla, you will want to run after her and try to get to her before..."

...you lose her forever! She would certainly have misinterpreted what she saw. So if you love Camilla, tell her you love her! True love is the most precious thing in this world. I should know." So Theodore...
( Not for the story, but I just wanted to say how nifty I think your Storytelling Tuesday is! What fun, *smile*!)
........ran out into the street calling for Camilla but she had disappeared. Into the blackness of the night he ran, but no sign of her could he see. With heavy heart he turned and slowly and sadly started to make his way back home. But wait! What was that sound he heard? He strained his ears listening, listening, there it was again. He turned and walked in the direction of the faint sounds he could hear, when suddenly......
He saw Camilla under a weeping willow tree sobbing. Theodore quietly approached and enfolded her in a warm embrace while he explained everything and told Camilla how much he loved her. Camilla dried her tears and...................
said,I am so happy you care for me,but I am very confused about what just happened!
Did Marilyn really have a secret or did she just get overwhelmed and run away?
Maybe it doesn.t matter...
Theodore headbonked Camilla and told her that Marilyn showed him how important true love was and how he knew he would always be by Camilla's side. He wiped her tears away with his paw.
Just then they both saw..........
that Theodore was still holding Marilyn's letter. He also was holding another envelope. Theordore smiled. He opened the envelope to find his invitaion to the Annual Feline Ball.
